Facial Massage For Flawless Skin

Facial massage. It's an art that dates back many, many years and has roots across the globe from China to Mexico, france and Sweden, with each nation having their own take on how its done, these places have shaped what we know as facial massage today. Admittedly I love a facial, the relaxation of just lying there whist someone deep cleanses the skin & massages your face into lymphatic heaven, I literally can't think of anything better. Scrolling through the Instagram feeds of any make-up artist or beauty therapists you'll find videos of hands moving rapidly, pinching, tapping, flicking, and rolling but how on earth can we replicate this at home?

Everyone wants that plumped-up after glow and lift that massage can offer, plus team this with a oil cleanse and you have a DIY beauty session worth its weight in gold! Oil cleansing is amazing for hydrating the skin and the perfect chance to try your hand at some massage skills. Psst.... not sure how to oil cleanse? click here!

What are the benefits of Facial massage?

Apart from making you feel generally amazing, I mean, who doesn't like a little self pampering?! There are added benefits that actually make a difference. We can carry a lot of stress and tension in our face and we might not even realise it but when you apply massage you may be able to aid a reduction in puffiness, uplift in the firmness of the skin and that in itself can leave you with a healthy, rested glow.

Now we aren't doctors, I just want to stress that but we have done lots of research over the last few years and what we found out is that the primary target in facial massage is the lymph nodes underneath the ears and on the neck. When these areas become blocked, lymphatic drainage becomes sluggish, which is thought to lead to a puffy, dull complexion. Massaging these areas helps to drain the toxins which can otherwise lead to skin that looks deflated & a bit flat & grey.

Some people swear by it, others don't seem so sure but personally I feel it has generally smoothed my complexion & has left my skin more 'glow'.

If you want to read a bit more about the lymphatic system, Heathline have quite a good read and Bright Body do too.

How do we do it?

There are a number of resources for different techniques but here is my fav video by skincare expert, Abigail James. This isn't an affiliate, she is generally just really good & is so knowledgeable. She offers easy step by step so her videos are always so easy to follow.

Have a watch & let me know what you think.
